Thanks for your contribution from California! Please introduce yourself briefly.

Hi! I'm chibi-tech from the Bay Area of California. I compose tunes for all sorts of styles & techniques, though I often emphasize on chiptunes and limited sound sources. Sometimes it's to satisfy my curiosity of learning how different sound sources work. Sometimes they're even for published videogames! But often it's because I enjoy making all my friends either laugh at or applaud the unorthodox material that I love to create.

How did you feel on remixing Psyvariar? Also, let me know any notable points you emphasized.

If the overall technique sounds oddly familiar, you're definitely correct! The instrumentation is from Tecnosoft's Thunderforce IV for the SEGA MEGADRIVE/GENESIS. When creating the remix, I pretended that Psyvariar had a 16-bit prequel handled by Tecnosoft, and that it would include the heavy metal rockout techniques that the company was well-known for.

Melodically-speaking, much ambition came from old metal-style tracker MODs that I used to endlessly listen to in my AMIGA A3000 + Protracker. Oldschool demoscene tracker nerds may recognize some overwhelming references to Frederic Motte (El Mobo) and Tor Gausen (Walkman), as their tunes were also known for their dramatic changes in tempo & mood.

Despite the fact that you're very skillful at wide range of music style from NES to orthodox acoustics, why did you focus on FM synthesizer music this time?

Recently I re-visited FM music and reminded myself on how amazing they can sound like. Although my fondest memories come from the NES & its PSG, I still had nice recollections of playing my neighbor/friend's SEGA GENESIS when I was younger. Coincidentally he had Thunder Force III, which I've spent a couple of afternoon days trying to conquer. Recently I discovered Thunder Force IV and its technically-improved music. Hearing the fantastically-programmed power guitar FM instruments were too tempting for my curiosity to ignore. So then it was decided that I would remix Psyvariar's music into the distinctive heavy metal FM style. ;)

"Thunder Force VI" was officially announced just after you finished your remix ;) What do you feel about that?

I'm looking very forward to it! I feel that the series was long-overdue for a new game (especially when understanding the past difficulties that the developers have experienced). Being a continuing fan of 2D scrolling STG games, it is only inevitable as good news.

Let me know your equipments for the remix.

All sequencing was done on Renoise, using VOPM as a shared VSTi resource amongst all the FM instruments. Minor post-production was done in Logic Pro. Ideas were devised with the help from a YAMAHA DX100 strapped as a 'shoulkey' controller -- all while foolishly dancing across my DTM workspace. (w

Give any message to Japanese video game music listeners.

There will be more material released for the remainder of 2008. As a hint to everyone: The beach will bring nice conch shells for you to place your ears next to. ;) Also the picopico attack will return for revenge -- with the help of a certain 'tsundere' girl. In any case, please look forward to them!
